Southampton is a quintessential village known for its enviable lifestyle. Southampton was named New York State’s first English settlement in 1640 and has ties to legendary names including Du Pont, Vanderbilt, and Ford. Today, the village is an ultraluxe locale for year-round privacy and holiday homes. Properties in Southampton are made up of luxurious mansions, some of which are the most expensive in all of the country. Homes in this moneyed enclave range from avant-garde cubist homes to whimsical cottage abodes. Backyards contain sleek infinity pools and full-size sports courts. Southampton is home to eleven different beaches, all of which are postcard perfect. The town is also full of culinary delights and world-renowned shops. Dining and shopping at swanky establishments is the norm. Even though Southampton is a ritzy cosmopolitan town, it is still traditional in many respects. Culture is a pillar of the community and residents take time to appreciate the arts at Southampton’s many galleries and museums. Locals also surround themselves in Southampton’s natural beauty by spending weekends at one of the many breathtaking beaches in the area.

Dining, Entertainment & Shopping

Southampton’s Main Street is the village’s go-to spot for dining and shopping, while coastal recreation is the hotspot for entertainment.
Tutto il Giorno is a chic and intimate Italian bistro with a beautiful garden. This Southampton staple is known for its innovative approach to traditional Italian cuisine, crafting dishes like butternut squash ravioli and shrimp scampi over sauteed spaghetti squash. Sant Ambroeus is a stylish Milanese eatery serving tasty baked goods, bold espresso drinks, fresh paninis, and creamy gelato. Their heavenly Italian cookies pair perfectly with a cappuccino or latte. The delicious Tate’s Bake Shop originates from Southampton too. Craft-baked cookies are available daily, with the sweet-and-salty chocolate chip being their trademark flavor. Tate’s cakes and cupcakes are crave-worthy as well.

Entertainment focuses heavily on outdoor recreation in this beach town. Dune Road is a terrific place to walk, hike, bike, or jog along the coast. Some of Southampton’s beaches even allow overnight stays. Locals will go glamping on the soft sand and admire the starry sky. During the day, it’s all about wading through the blue waters or casting a line for some fish. Southampton locals love a good retail therapy session. Luckily, the village is bustling with luxury stores. The iconic designer-brand Ralph Lauren is a favorite for refined clothing. From polos to pullovers, this globally recognized label sells timeless apparel. For trendy home design and decor items, Mecox is an impressive furniture store. Situated on a vast plot of land, this rural shop is abundant with charming home inspiration.

Things to Do 

Locals spend much of their free time at Southampton’s stunning beaches. Coopers Beach is one of the finest attractions in the area and is consistently rated among the top 10 beaches in the United States. Over 500 acres of golden sand stretch across the scenic shore, while historic manors and a gorgeous landscape serve as the beach’s backdrop.

Southampton has some fantastic art galleries too. Arthur T. Kalaher Fine Art and the Mark Humphrey Gallery are wonderful places to buy awe-inspiring pieces of art and get them custom framed. Tripoli Gallery is within the vicinity as well. The four-bay showroom features works from both world-famous and up-and-coming artists and also serves as a working art studio.
